About MaxyTools

MaxyTools is a free online toolbox: PDF, images, text, calculators and converters, QR codes, security. It rests on a simple idea: your files belong to you, and processing a document should not require an account, a payment or blind trust in an unknown server.

Our mission

Many online tool services ask you to send your documents to their servers, cap the number of operations per day, add a watermark or demand a subscription for something as ordinary as merging two PDFs. For a student, a job seeker, a small non-profit or anyone who cannot afford desktop software, those obstacles close the door on perfectly ordinary school or administrative tasks.

Our mission is to offer these tools for free and in everyone's own language, with no account to create, no hidden limit and without your documents ever leaving your device. The tools are available in nine languages (English, German, Dutch, French, Arabic, Italian, Norwegian, Danish and Swedish), with an interface that follows the reading direction.

Who we are

MaxyTools is an independent project, designed, built and maintained by a small team. No investor, no large company and no advertising network owns it. We do not publish individual names or photos: that would add nothing to the quality of the tools, and we would rather you judge us on the result, which you can check yourself every time you use a tool.

So we do not claim to be a large company, nor to have hundreds of staff or millions of users. Any figure you read on this site is one we can justify; when in doubt, we do not write it.

How the tools work without uploading your files

Modern browsers can do a great deal: read and write PDFs, decode images, compute cryptographic fingerprints, recognise text in a picture. MaxyTools loads the needed program into the page (sometimes a few megabytes, cached afterwards), then does the work on your device, using your processor and your browser's memory.

Concretely, when you drop a PDF into Compress PDF, the file is read into local memory, transformed, then offered for download. No network request carries its content. You can check this: open the “Network” tab of your browser's developer tools during an operation, or even switch off your connection once the page has loaded.

This approach has a cost that we accept: the memory of an entry-level phone limits file sizes (the limit is shown on each tool), and some very heavy operations are slower than on a powerful server.

How we make a living

Hosting a site and writing tools costs time and money. Our model rests on two sources and no others: advertising, shown only after your consent through the consent banner, and, where offered, voluntary support from people who wish to help. Nothing is ever compulsory.

We do not sell your data, we do not monetise it, and in any case we do not have your files. Until an advertising network has approved the site, you may see no ads at all. If you decline advertising cookies, the tools work in exactly the same way. The details are in the privacy policy and the cookie policy.

How we test and update the tools

A tool is published only if it really works. Before going live we try it with real files, including awkward cases: very large files, protected or damaged files, accented or Arabic characters, slow devices. Where possible, the tool itself reopens the file it has just produced to check that it is intact, and we show real measured sizes rather than promises.

We would rather write “this tool does not exist yet” than publish a half-finished one. A tool's known limits (maximum size, supported formats, what it does not do) are stated on its page. The open-source components we rely on are listed, with their licence, on the Licences page.

The site keeps evolving: bug fixes, new tools, new languages. Guides carry the date of their last update. Translations are reviewed over time, and some may still contain clumsy wording: please tell us.

Report a mistake or suggest an improvement

A tool that misbehaves, a wrong result, a clumsy translation, an inaccurate description: write to us from the Contact page or at contact@maxytools.com. For a bug, give the tool, your browser, your device and, if possible, the size and format of the file (never the file itself if it is confidential). Every message is read.

If you notice that a guide or page states something inaccurate, that is just as useful: we correct it and update the date. Tool ideas are welcome; we rank them by usefulness and by whether they can be made reliable in a browser.
