Help
- For EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A and ITF-14, enter the code WITHOUT its check digit (12, 7, 11 or 13 digits): it is calculated and added. With the check digit, it is verified and a mistake is fixed in one click.
- Code 128 accepts any ASCII character (no accents or Arabic); Code 39 capitals, digits and - . space $ / + % ; ITF an even number of digits; Codabar must start and end with A, B, C or D.
- Set the bar width, height, margin (leave at least 10 modules of white on each side), colors, and show or hide the human-readable text.
- The PNG can be exported at ×1 to ×4 for print; the SVG is vector. The code is read back automatically by a reader (except MSI) before you download it.
- Use dark bars on a light background: laser readers do not read inverted codes. A real retail barcode must come from GS1: this tool does not assign numbers.
Frequently asked questions
What is the check digit?
It is the last digit of an EAN, UPC or ITF-14: it is computed from the other digits (weights 3 and 1) to catch a typing or scanning error. The tool calculates it if you leave it out, and verifies it if you give it.
Can I use these codes to sell my products in stores?
EAN and UPC numbers must be assigned by GS1 (through your company prefix), otherwise they may already be used by another product. The tool draws a valid code; it does not reserve any number.
Which format should I choose?
EAN-13 for products in Europe, UPC-A in North America, Code 128 for free-form references (stock, parcels), ITF-14 for cartons, Code 39 for industry.
