Help
- Pick your institution's grading scale: percentage, out of 20, points out of 4.0 or 5.0, or letters A–F with + and −. No system is imposed and the letter table is editable.
- Enter each course with its grade and its credits or weight (decimals allowed, such as 1.5). Rows without a grade are ignored; an out-of-scale grade is flagged on its row.
- Open “Previous semesters” to get the cumulative average: it weights your earlier average by the credits already completed.
- Under “Goal”, enter the target average and the credits still to come: the tool works out the grade to achieve, rounded up to the next hundredth, or tells you the goal is already secured or out of reach.
- Calculation is exact in decimals and nothing is sent anywhere: your grades stay in your browser. Rounding rules vary between institutions, so check yours.
Frequently asked questions
How is a weighted average calculated?
Multiply each grade by its weight or credits, add them up, then divide by the total weight. Example out of 20: 14.5 (weight 4), 12 (weight 3) and 16 (weight 2) give (58 + 36 + 32) ÷ 9 = 14.00.
How do I turn letter grades into a 4.0 GPA?
Each letter is worth a number of points: for instance A = 4.0, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, C = 2.0. These values differ between institutions, which is why the tool's table is editable before you calculate.
How do I find the grade I need to reach a target average?
Enter the target average and the weight of the remaining courses. The required grade is (target × total weight − points already earned) ÷ remaining weight. If it exceeds the scale's maximum, the goal can no longer be reached.
