Percentage Calculator

Help: Percentage Calculator

  • Six calculations in one: X% of Y, X is what % of Y, % change between two values, increase or decrease an amount, find the total from a percentage, and difference in percentage points.
  • Each calculation is pre-filled with an example: just change the values and the result updates live, with the formula applied to your numbers.
  • The maths is exact (decimals, no 0.1 + 0.2 = 0.30000000000000004). You choose how many decimals are shown (0 to 8).
  • Change is always measured against the starting value; a zero starting value is flagged instead of returning a meaningless result.

How to use this tool

  1. Pick the calculation from the list.
  2. Enter the two values (comma or dot, Arabic digits accepted).
  3. Read the result and the detailed formula.
  4. Copy the result or change the number of decimals.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between “percentage points” and “percent”?

A rate moving from 4% to 5.5% gains 1.5 percentage points; in relative terms it rose by 37.5% (1.5 ÷ 4). The tool gives both to avoid confusion.

Why does +25% then −25% not bring me back to the start?

Because each percentage applies to a different base. 100 + 25% = 125, then 125 − 25% = 93.75. To return to 100 from 125 you need a 20% drop.

How do I find the price before a percentage increase?

Use “Find the total” with the current price and (100 + rate) as the percentage: a price of 230 after +15% was 230 ÷ 115 × 100 = 200 before the rise.
