Help
- Enter a Gregorian date, or a Hijri day, month and year: the other calendar updates. Click a day in the month calendar to select it.
- The computation uses your browser's date engine (Intl). Three calendars to choose from: Umm al-Qura (default, Saudi Arabia's official calendar), civil (arithmetic) and astronomical. Supported range: 1300 to 1600 AH, roughly 1882 to 2174.
- The Hijri calendar is lunar: the real start of a month depends on the moon sighting, which varies from country to country. Expect a possible difference of ±1 day (rarely 2) with your country's official announcement, especially for Ramadan and the Eids.
- The list of key dates (New Year, Ashura, Mawlid, Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, Arafah, Eid al-Adha…) is computed with no network access and given as an indication only.
- The Hijri day begins at sunset; this tool's display, like your phone's, changes at midnight.
Frequently asked questions
Why can the Hijri date shown differ from my country's announcement?
Because months start with the sighting of the lunar crescent, which differs from country to country. The tool applies a computed calendar (Umm al-Qura by default): the gap can reach one day. For Ramadan and the Eids, the official announcement is what counts.
Which calendar should I choose: Umm al-Qura, civil or astronomical?
Umm al-Qura is Saudi Arabia's official calendar and the most used in diaries and online. The civil (tabular) calendar follows a fixed arithmetic rule, handy for reproducible calculations but further from the real moon. The astronomical one is your browser engine's variant.
Are my dates sent anywhere?
No. Everything is computed in your browser with its built-in date functions, with no network request.
