Help: Color Converter

  • Paste the colour in any format (#1e90ff, rgb(30 144 255), hsl(210 100% 56%), oklch(66% 0.19 250), cmyk(88%, 44%, 0%, 0%), dodgerblue): the format is recognised and all the others appear, each with a copy button.
  • Lab and LCH follow the CSS definition (D50 reference white); OKLab and OKLCH are modern perceptual spaces, useful for building even gradients and palettes.
  • CMYK is a simple mathematical conversion, not a printer profile: printed colours differ. A colour outside the sRGB gamut is brought to the closest displayable one.
  • The WCAG contrast ratio is computed against white and against black, with the AA and AAA thresholds (body text and large text).
  • Shades keep the hue with even lightness steps; harmonies (complementary, triad, analogous…) rotate the hue. Click a swatch to take it as the new colour.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between HSL and OKLCH?

HSL is simple but misleading: two colours with the same HSL lightness can look very differently light. OKLCH is designed so perceived lightness is even, which gives better gradients and palettes.

Why does the CMYK shown not match my printer?

CMYK values depend on the ink, the paper and the printer's ICC profile. The tool does the theoretical conversion from RGB; for print, ask your printer for the conversion.

What contrast should I aim for?

WCAG asks for at least 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text (AA), or 7:1 and 4.5:1 for AAA.
