JPG to PNG

Help: JPG to PNG

  • Drop one or more JPG (or JPEG) files: each one becomes a PNG with the same name, converted one after the other.
  • PNG is lossless: it keeps the exact pixels of the JPG, but it cannot bring back detail the JPG compression already discarded.
  • Expect a bigger file: a photo saved as PNG is often 3 to 8 times heavier than the same JPG.
  • The orientation of phone photos is applied; metadata (GPS position, camera model) is not copied into the PNG.
  • Images above 100 megapixels are refused so the tab does not crash.

Frequently asked questions

Is my JPG uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs in your browser: the file never leaves your device and is neither stored nor analyzed.

Why is the PNG so much bigger than my JPG?

JPG drops detail to shrink the file; PNG stores every pixel without loss. For a photo it is therefore often several times heavier. It remains useful for editing without recompressing, or for a logo or a screenshot.

Does converting improve the quality?

No. It only stops you from losing more each time you save: compression flaws already present in the JPG stay in the PNG.
