Edit PDF

Help: Edit PDF

  • Add text (standard fonts, or an embedded font for Arabic and extended Latin letters), images, your signature, rectangles, ellipses, lines, arrows, a highlight, a freehand drawing or a stamp. Every item can be moved, resized and undone with Ctrl+Z.
  • What the tool does not do: edit the text that is already in the PDF. Rewriting existing content is not reliable in a browser, so the editor adds elements on top. To correct a word, redact it and write the right one in its place.
  • Redaction really removes content: on export, each affected page is turned into an image with the areas painted black, so the hidden text no longer exists in the file. The trade-off: that page is no longer selectable, the file may grow and its links and fields are lost.
  • Forms: fields (text, checkboxes, radio buttons, lists) are filled right on the page, with the option to flatten them; XFA forms are not supported. Pages: delete, rotate, reorder by drag and drop, insert a blank page.
  • On a phone, pinch to zoom and draw with your finger. Above 100 MB a warning appears because the device may run out of memory. A password-protected PDF must be unlocked first.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit the text that is already in the PDF?

No, and we would rather say so plainly. Changing existing text means rebuilding fonts and layout, which is not reliable in a browser. The editor adds elements on top: to correct a word, redact it and write the right one next to it or over it.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The PDF is read, edited and saved by your browser: your files never leave your device and nothing is kept once you close the page.

Is redaction really permanent?

Yes for the pages concerned: they are converted to an image with the area blacked out, so the hidden text no longer exists in the exported file, and the document's title, author, bookmarks and attachments are removed. Only the areas you draw are hidden: review the preview before sharing the file.

Can I write in Arabic or with special characters?

Yes. Common letters use the PDF's standard fonts; Arabic and extended Latin letters use a font embedded in the file, with contextual forms and right-to-left order. A few very fine Arabic diacritical marks may sit slightly off: check the preview.

What happens with a very large PDF?

Everything is processed in your device's memory. Above about 100 MB a warning appears, and if memory runs out a clear message says so. Try on a computer, or split the PDF first with the “Split PDF” tool.
