HEIC to JPG

Help: HEIC to JPG

  • Drop one or more .heic or .heif files (photos from an iPhone or iPad). Each gives a JPG with the same name; bursts and Live Photos holding several images give numbered files.
  • Set the JPG quality (90 by default: excellent result, reasonable file). The photo's orientation is applied; GPS position and camera info are not copied into the JPG.
  • The HEIC decoder (about 1.3 MB) only loads when you drop the first file. In Safari, the browser's own decoder does the work and nothing is loaded.
  • A very unusual HEIC (some 10-bit images, multi-layer files) may be refused: the tool says so rather than produce a wrong image. On the iPhone, Settings > Camera > Formats > “Most Compatible” saves JPG directly.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my iPhone save in HEIC?

HEIC takes about half the space of JPG at equal quality, which saves storage. But Windows, many websites and some apps cannot read it, hence the conversion to JPG.

Does my photo lose quality?

A JPG at 90 stays visually very close to the original HEIC. The file is a bit heavier. To keep as much detail as possible, raise the quality to the maximum: the file will be heavier.

Are my photos sent to a server?

No. Decoding is done in your browser (WebAssembly); your photos never leave your device.
