- 3
Read the addition and deletion counters, or download the diff.
Help
- Paste the original text on the left and the modified text on the right: differences appear as you type, green for additions and red for deletions.
- Three levels of detail: by lines (the usual code view), by words (proofreading an article) or by characters (a typo, a changed digit).
- Two displays: side by side, with changed words highlighted inside the lines, or unified, like a patch, with three lines of context. The line diff downloads as a .diff file.
- “Ignore whitespace” and “Ignore case” set aside unimportant differences. For very large texts the calculation is capped at 1.5 seconds: the tab does not freeze and a notice tells you.

Frequently asked questions
Which level of detail should I choose?
Lines for code or lists, words for prose, characters to spot a small typo or a changed digit.
Are my texts sent to a server?
No: the comparison runs in your browser with the diff-match-patch library, so you can compare confidential documents.
What does the “approximate result” notice mean?
On huge texts the calculation is stopped after 1.5 seconds. Every difference shown is real but the list may be less concise than the optimum.
