Compress Image

Help: Compress Image

  • Drop JPG, PNG or WebP files: each format gets its own method (quality for JPG and WebP, palette reduction or re-encoding for PNG).
  • A live estimate on the first file shows the before/after size and a comparison slider: tune until you are happy.
  • “Aim for a maximum size” adjusts the quality automatically (then the dimensions if needed) to fit under the size you want, say 200 KB.
  • A file that is already well optimized is returned as is: the tool never makes it heavier.
  • Metadata (GPS position, camera model) is removed from recompressed images.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Compression runs in your browser; no file leaves your device.

Which quality should I use for the web?

Around 75% for a JPG or WebP: the size drops sharply with no visible difference. Use the comparison slider to check on your own image.

Is the compression lossless?

JPG and WebP are recompressed with a slight, adjustable loss. For a PNG you choose: reduced palette (lossy, very effective) or strictly identical re-encoding.
